Enter now for SuperMeat

The deadline for entering products into this year's SuperMeat & Fish Awards is approaching rapidly.

Manufacturers supplying products to Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Waitrose and the Co-operative Group are being urged to get their entries in before 16 March, 2007. Any meat or fish product is eligible, as long as it is being sold in one of the participating retailers.

Four more sponsors have also signed on to this year's event:Vion Food Group, EBLEX, HCC - Meat Promotion Wales and Interfood Technology have all joined the Danish Bacon & Meat Council, Bord Bia and BPEX in their support of the annual MTJ awards.

Designed to reward excellence in the supermarket meat and fish sector, the SuperMeat & Fish Awards will be taking place at the Hilton, Park Lane, London on 19 June and is one of the few occasions when the entire supply chain meets up for an evening of celebration.

The event was established by Meat Trades Journal in 1999, to identify and reward the very best meat, poultry and fish products in the UK, together with the top stores around Britain.

The awards aim to encourage new product development, recognise the professional and creative development that is driving the industry forward and raise confidence and awareness in the meat, poultry and fish industries.

This year will see the introduction of a new award, the Meat Industry Personality of the Year, sponsored by Interfood Technology. This exciting new award will see nominations gathered from across the industry, which will then vote for their preferred winner. Watch out for more details going forward.

Ed Bedington, editor of MTJ, said: "We're getting a superb response from everyone taking part and supporting this year's event, which is wonderful. I'd like to urge all producers and processors who are supplying our participating retailers to ensure you get your products in on time - after all, you've got to be in it to win it."
