Last chance to vote

Voting for the meat industry Personality of the Year 2007 is due to close this Friday.

Three industry figures are vying for the title, sponsored by Interfood Technologies, and the winner will be named at this year's SuperMeat & Fish awards.

The three contenders in the running are Bill Parker, Peter Scott and Brian Hague. All three are industry veterans, who have made outstanding contributions to the sector over the years.

Peter Scott recently retired from his role as director of the British Meat Processors Association, after almost 17 years at the helm. Scott, a former colonel in the Royal Tank Regiment, steered the organisation through a number of changes, and the industry through a number of crises, before stepping down earlier this year.

Bill Parker has been one of the best-known personalities in the British meat industry for many years. As well as being chairman of W J Parker, which has had long established interests in processing and farming, he was also a co-founder of the Randall Parker Food Group. Among influential posts he has held are president of the Federation of Fresh Meat Wholesalers, now the British Meat Processors Association, and Master of the Worshipful Company of Butchers.

Until recently, Brian Haigh spent virtually his whole working life with Asda, latterly in the meat buying department and is a well-known personality in both supermarket and meat industry circles. Described by one leading processor as "legendary", Brian now runs his own consultancy, helping companies to understand the finer points of retailing.

The poll closes on Friday, so register your vote now.

The awards, established by MTJ in 1999, aim to encourage new product development as well as honouring the top stores around Britain and will take place on 19 June, 2007, at the Park Lane Hilton in London.

Sponsors include the Vion Food Group, EBLEX, HCC - Meat Promotion Wales, Interfood Technology, the Danish Bacon & Meat Council, The Livestock & Meat Commission, Bord Bia and BPEX.

The awards cover Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda stores, all of which have also entered products, along with Waitrose and the Co-operative Group.
