Welsh butchers compete for top title
Butchers across North Wales will be given the chance to show off their talents next week as they compete to be crowned the Supreme Sausage and Pie Champions.
The North Wales Awards for Innovation and Excellence in Meat Products are being held in Llandudno to give butchers across the region the chance to have their products professionally evaluated by top judges.
The South Wales awards were held last month in Swansea and proved hugely successful for those who took part, with the 26 butchers who entered earning a total of 166 gold awards.
The event, organised by Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC), sees butchers from across North Wales enter products ranging from burgers, pies and sausages to BBQ products and ready meals, and are then awarded a gold, silver or bronze.
Last year’s North Wales event saw a total of a 159 gold awards presented to butchers, with Vaughan’s Family Butchers of Penyffordd nr. Chester winning the top prize of Supreme Sausage Champion.
Graham Titchener, HCC’s marketing executive, said the awards offered great opportunities for businesses. “This event will provide a great platform for butchers to market their businesses. Last year’s winners, without exception, have generated substantial new business as a result of their success.”
He added: “Every year we get to see products of the highest quality made right here in North Wales, and I expect this year to be no different”.
