Pork Pie surprise for groom
A Lincolnshire butcher who created a pork pie wedding cake is hoping the idea might catch on. Roger Papworth, 65, with a butcher’s shop in Woodhall Spa, created a 10kg, four-tier, surprise cake for a local bride and groom.
Roger said: "It was really for the groom, because he loves pork pie so much. But I think it could catch on. A wedding cake that size, which will feed 100 people, would cost about £600. But this one only cost about £150.
"It took us eight hours to make it. I have been a butcher for 53 years and it is only the second time anything like this has been requested.
"We did it for him as a friend, but looking at how it has turned out, we will do it for anyone else who wants one!"
And the verdict from the groom, John Kent?
"I had no idea it had been made, but it was fantastic. It was all eaten up well before the end of the night and everyone thought it was the best that they had tasted. "
