ABP to install clipping technology
ABP is set to install clipping technology at its Perth abattoir so farmers won’t have to remove faecal contamination from cattle hides.
The firm has already successfully installed the technology at its abattoir in Shrewsbury, with farmers believed to be paying £3/head.
The long-standing demand to clip faecal contamination from the hides of live cattle is a contentious issue and farming leaders have called on the abattoir sector to invest in techniques that would allow cattle to be clipped after slaughter.
The Scottish Beef Cattle Association welcomed the possible investment and called on other slaughterhouse owners to follow ABP’s lead.
