Restaurants unite to fight world hunger
A group of restaurants have united to fight global hunger and give food-lovers the chance to make a difference while eating out.
The Fight Hunger / Eat Out fundraising campaign will take place throughout October, centering around World Food Day on the 16th. Michelin-starred and independent restaurants, chains, cafés and gastro pubs will raise funds in a variety of ways, some by adding a donation onto the table bill, others by donating a set amount from one or more dishes on their menus. Many will also hold special fund-raising events.
The campaign was launched by Action Against Hunger, an international humanitarian organisation committed to saving the lives of malnourished children and their families in over 40 countries worldwide. Last year, more than 500 restaurateurs raise over £400,000 towards the organisation’s vital work.
“This is a great opportunity to be part of a premier fund-raising campaign for restaurants that is simple, rewarding and helping to raise money to help children dying from malnutrition. Just a little of your time and effort can make a positive difference to people’s lives!” said chef and restaurateur Raymond Blanc, OBE, who is Action Against Hunger’s ambassador.
Other high-profile chefs supporting the campaign this year include Michel Roux Jr and Giorgio Locatelli.
