Jobs to go at Bernard Matthews
Workers at the giant Bernard Matthews turkey production unit in Norfolk have been warned that there will be job cuts shortly.
Management say that the jobs, at the plant at Great Witchingham where 2,600 staff are employed, will have to go to meet lower production requirements.
The company, which is now in consultation with unions, has not yet disclosed how many staff will have to be made redundant.
In a statement a company spokesman said: "Bernard Matthews can confirm that following consultation with its trade union, a phased lay-off programme may be implemented to match its labour force to current production requirements. This will likely take effect after Easter.
"We are unable to provide any further information on this programme until the final details are confirmed."
