Finalists revealed for SuperMeat

Product judging is now finished, with a broad mix of retailers and ranges into the final for this year’s SuperMeat & Fish competition.

With record levels in numbers of entries, judges had their work cut out and the competition was intense to whittle down the field to our ultimate finalists. Winners will now be revealed on the night, with all the entrants — Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Budgens, Lidl and The Co-operative Group — hoping for success.

Ed Bedington, editor of MTJ, which organises the awards, said: “SuperMeat is by far the biggest meat awards in the industry, reflected in the number of entries we received this year. The prestige attached to the awards give those winning their categories a great opportunity to market their success to their customers. We’ve got some great products through to the final.”

MTJ is also pleased to welcome Clarke Wilmott as a sponsor for this year’s event. The law firm, sponsor of the SuperMeat drinks reception, joins fellow sponsors Bpex, Eblex, Freedom Foods, Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales and Vion.

This year’s awards will take place at the Hilton Hotel in London, on 1 July, and will evaluate both products and stores, with one retailer declared the overall SuperMeat Retailer of the Year.

Once more returning to the competition is the Meat Industry Personality of the Year. Nominations are pouring in, but it is not too late to put your candidate forward by calling Ed Bedington on 01293 846567, or emailing Deadline for nominations is 7 May and the four candidates with the most nominations will then be put to the vote at
