Robin Hood Championship celebrates 20th anniversary
The Robin Hood Championship for independent butchers, held at the Nottinghamshire County Show, Winthorpe, will celebrate its 20-year anniversary by adding an extra category and reducing weight penalties.
The championship, organised by the Nottinghamshire Council of Retail Meat Traders, includes the categories Savoury Pasty or Pastry Slice, Lincolnshire-style Sausage, Best Sample Pork Sausage, Speciality Sausage, Speciality Pie, and this year’s new class Sweet Pie or Pastry.
Set up in 1985, the championship has grown from a local event to a nationally recognised annual competition. The overall sausage winner will be awarded the Council Shield, which was last year awarded to Michael F Kennedy, Holywell, Flintshire, and will automatically be entered into the national Champions of Champions competition, organised by Meat Trades Journal.
“The president and members of the Nottinghamshire Council of Retail Meat Traders hope the championship continues successfully for many years and that the website will give an idea of the quality and variety the independent butcher produces,” said a spokesman for the championship.
The competition will take place as part of the Newark and Nottinghamshire County Show on 11 May 2014. Entrants should visit www.robinhood-sausage-championship.co.uk for an entry form.
