2 Sisters’ free-range chicken suppliers celebrate milestone

Westcountry Free Range Farmers, a co-operative of free-range chicken farmers and a key supplier to 2 Sisters Food Group, is celebrating after reaching a milestone 100-flock cycles of chicken production.

The co-operative has over 250 purpose-built houses, all with woodland-planted range areas, spread across 40 farms, supplying around 140,000 birds per week to 2 Sisters.

Andrew Gibson, group agricultural manager at 2 Sisters Food Group, said: “Westcountry Free Range chickens are recognised for their quality, with each of the farms within the group growing their flocks in line with the upmost standards of poultry farming, keeping them in the best conditions and growing them with care. We’ve built a strong relationship with them over the years and congratulate them on their recent success.”

2 Sisters Food Group added that Westcountry Free Range farms are all purposely designed, with naturally ventilated buildings, specifically created to house free-range chickens at low stocking densities, and provide access to large tree-planted range areas, where the birds are encouraged to roam free.

Les Hayward, founding member of Westcountry Free Range Farmers, said: “We’re thrilled to reach this very important milestone at a time when the group is continuing to grow and improve. Over the past 20 years we have remained committed to quality and care of our flocks – it’s this and the passion we put into farming that have contributed to our success.”
