Flintshire butchers clean up at BBQ competition
Vaughan Family Butchers of Penyffordd near Chester won all but one of the prizes on offer at the National Federation of Meat and Food Traders (NFMFT) National BBQ Competition in Coventry.
The contest was held at the NFMFT AGM, and three Bronze, seventeen Silver and fifteen Gold awards were handed out. However all but one of the overall winning prizes were won by members of Vaughan Family Butchers. Premier Young Butcher 2013 Runner Up and 2014 International Young Butcher Competitor Matthew Edwards, who works at the shop, was crowned Supreme Champion for his Spicy Beef and Vegetable Kebab, also picking up the Best Beef Product award.
Proprietor Steve Vaughan won Best Sausage and Best Pork Product for his Pork, Paprika and Roasted Garlic Sausage, and wife Helen walked away with Best Burger, Best Lamb Product, Best Kebab and Best Poultry Product.
Only one winner managed to break up Vaughan Family Butchers’ dominance - Q Guild butcher Martin Player from Cardiff took home the Best Steak title for his sirloin steak.
