Meat body congratulates gold medallist
Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC) has congratulated Welsh cyclist Geraint Thomas for his gold in the Coomonwealth Games road race.
A supporter of Welsh Beef and Lamb, Thomas appeared at the HCC stand during the Royal Welsh Show where he raced against the public on a fitness bike and took part in cooking demonstrations.
“I was delighted to watch Geraint win the Commonwealth Gold medal in the road race,” said HCC Chief Executive Gwyn Howells. “It’s only a fair reward for the years of hard work and determination he has put into his sport.
“Geraint has an enviable reputation as a team player, helping his Team Sky colleague Chris Froome win the Tour de France in 2013 despite suffering a fractured pelvis early in the race. He also has two Olympic Gold medals and holds the world record in the team pursuit.
“So it’s wonderful to see him win an individual Gold medal for Wales to add to the Bronze he won earlier that week in the time trials.
“Geraint’s Gold was the icing on the cake for a fantastic performance by the athletes in Team Wales, and on behalf of HCC I’d like to congratulate them all on their fantastic efforts.”
