Eblex points to Dutch opportunity for beef

There is scope for developing beef exports to the Dutch foodservice sector, according to Eblex.

Eblex said there were opportunities for developing the export market to Dutch restaurants, since the country was the second-biggest destination for exports of UK fresh and frozen beef last year, at 32,800 tonnes.

Jonathan Eckley, Eblex marketing executive, said: “The Netherlands is a significant export market for UK beef and we have built a strong presence in the Dutch market over the years.

“This has provided the perfect platform on which to highlight the quality of our product for the high-end foodservice sector as we move forwards, looking to increase shipments of high-quality beef cuts to this important market.”

Eblex reported that, from January to July 2014, beef exports to the Netherlands were worth £56 million, and cuts accounted for 44% of shipments during this period, up from 36% two years ago.

Dutch foodservice journalists also made a trip to the UK, where they were given an introduction to beef production in this country, and treated to a beef dinner from Quality Standard Mark (QSM) ambassador and Michelin-starred chef Nigel Haworth.
