Craig Finch wins Champion of Champions for second year running

Craig Finch has been announced winner of Meat Trades Journal's annual sausage competition Champion of Champions for the second year in a row.

The judging took place at the annual Bakers’ and Butchers’ Fair at the Newark Showground in Nottinghamshire yesterday (12 October), with the results revealed by celebrity host Keith Chegwin.

Finch from Craig Finch Butchers said it felt "fantastic" to win, and that he couldn’t believe he had won it two years running. "It’s hard work, but it’s worth it when you win the trophy," said Finch.

Finch explained that it was important to get the right promotion in the local press, and that winning competitions like this did help to raise the profile of a business.

Keith Fisher, butchery and product development manager at Bpex, and competition judge, said he was continually impressed by the standard of the entries in the competition. He explained that, a couple of years ago, you could walk along the tables of entries and see instantly who really cared about winning and who didn’t, but now he says that all the entries show passion and care.

"The standard of entries has really come on in leaps and bounds," he said. "Everyone wants to win Champion of Champions. You have the best sausages in the British Isles lined up against each other, so you’ve got to be good, and anybody who walks away with the title of Champion of Champions knows that they’ve made a really good sausage."
