Scottish meat body shows charity support

The Scottish Association of Meat Wholesalers (SAMW) has announced it has donated £8,000 to three UK charities.

SAMW has chosen Sarcoma UK, Alzheimer Scotland and Scottish War Blinded to share £8,000 raised at the SAMW charity auction at the Association’s 2014 conference and dinner.

“The charity auction is a long-standing feature of our annual dinner, with members and guests at this year’s event coming together to enable us to make a contribution to the important work being carried out by Sarcoma UK, Alzheimer Scotland and Scottish War Blinded,” said SAMW president Alan McNaughton.

The three charities welcomed the donations as a significant financial help. Claire Turner, trusts and corporate fundraising manager, Alzheimer Scotland who received £2,500, said: “The funds raised by SAMW will go some way towards helping us make sure that no one goes through dementia on their own, by supporting our Dementia Advisors Programme.”

Sarcoma UK, which provides research on sarcoma, a form of rare cancers found in muscles and bones, received £3,000 from SAMW. Meanwhile Scottish War Blinded also received £2,500.
