Conwy butcher exports to Malaysia
A Q Guild butcher has received its biggest ever overseas order for homemade sausages and dry cured bacon.
Edward’s of Conwy, North Wales, has secured an order for 88,000 sausages and 12,000 slices of its dry cured bacon from a long-standing customer in Malaysia.
The shop previously sent pallets of sausages by air to the country, but is now sending product by sea freight. Managing Director Ieuan Edwards said: “It always made me smile when the freight cost was more than the cost of the product.”
The business relationship began when a local Malaysian family, who own a shop in Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur, put Edwards in touch with a Malaysian distributor.
The relationship in Malaysia now plays an important role in the growth of the business, which Edwards wants to see double over the next three years. “It is ambitious but that is our aim,” he said.
Edwards said the order was a great way to celebrate British Sausage Week which runs from the 3-9 November.
