Welsh red meat roadshow reaches conclusion

Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales’ (HCC) Red Meat Roadshow reached the last stage of its two-year journey at the weekend, at the famous Italianate village of Portmeirion.

It made its final public appearance at Portmeirion’s annual Food and Crafts Fair, after spending 50 days over the past two years at popular tourist attractions around Wales, promoting PGI Welsh Lamb, PGI Welsh Beef and pork from Wales.

The weekend’s festivities included cooking demonstrations from well-known chefs such as Dudley Newbery and Mel Thomas, while HCC’s Elwen Roberts shared seasonal recipes and offered free samples to the crowds.

Roberts, HCC’s consumer executive, said: “We visited the fair last year, and the Roadshow was such a big hit that we decided to return again this year.

“Our aim is to prove that it’s possible to cook quick and easy meals containing red meat. The response we have had from the public across Wales has been tremendous and people have been enthusiastic about our recipes and keen to experiment at home.

The roadshow project was funded by the Rural Development Plan 2007-13 and travelled through visitor destinations such as Aberystwyth, Cardiff, Conwy, Llangollen, Pembrokeshire and Porthcawl.
