Sausage King sets himself a new challenge
A UK sausage expert has set out on a mission to try the nation’s best bangers, most recently sampling a “stunning array” at a Derbyshire Farm Shop.
Stephen Plume, known as the Sausage King, runs a website dedicated to British bangers: sausagefans.co.uk. He is undertaking the challenge of visiting as many of the butchers and farm shops listed on his site as he can.
His most recent visit was at Croots Farm Shop in Derbyshire, which he said had achieved “sausage perfection”. Plume also tried his hand at sausage-making at the shop near Duffield.
He told owner Steve Croot: “You have an eclectic mix that is really well made and tastes great.”
The farm shop uses pork from Packington Free Range Pork in Staffordshire for its sausages, while the beef hails from R & M Heath (Richard & Margaret) at Hazelwood Hall Farm, Hazelwood, Derbyshire.
Croot said: “Stephen is a real expert on sausages, so we were delighted to host a visit from him and even more chuffed when we heard how much he rated our sausages. As a big fan of sausages myself, it was great to talk over ideas for new sausage flavours and, between us, we hit on one which we’ll have a look at developing and will send to the Sausage King to try.”
