Bringing tiers to your eyes
A West Yorkshire butcher is looking to break into a brand-new market with the launch of an unusual product range, featuring a three-tier pork-pie wedding cake.
The pie-oneering Wilsons Butchers, of Crossgates, Leeds, are hoping to earn a crust with the new celebration pork-pie range.
The business, which took the title of best English butcher in last year's Top Shop Awards, is hoping to build on the reputation it gained after being named Yorkshire pork pie-making champions 2005.
Partner Andrew Green, pictured above left with brother John, said: "Since then our pie sales have soared, and we are now producing around 10,000 of them each and every week.
"We are always looking to extend and improve our ranges and hit upon the novel idea of a collection of giant size celebration pork pies, which are already proving to be in big demand the length and breadth of the country. The pork-pie wedding cakes, hand-crafted in our own in-house bakery, come in squares of ascending sizes of either seven, nine and 11 inches or five, seven and nine inches. They can even be personalised to include names, date and a suitable message," Andrew added.
