Yorkshire butcher nominated for building award
A Yorkshire butcher has been shortlisted for a major regional building award.
J Brindon Addy’s shop in Hade Edge, near Holmfirth, was extended by 48sq metres 12 months and is in the West Yorkshire regional final of the Yorkshire LABC Building Excellence Awards, having been shortlisted in the commercial build category.
Brindon Addy said: “We invested £160,000 in the project, which allowed us to evolve from being a small butcher to become a small food hall. A year down the line, it is proving to be money well spent and the extended shop has gone down really well with both existing and new customers. It’s a real honour to be shortlisted for such a prestigious building award.”
Main contractor for the project was Iain Slater Builders in nearby Honley. He said: “It was quite a difficult job, with the existing butchers shop having to remain fully open throughout the work. We fine-tuned the project as we went along and completed it both on time and on budget.
“We too received some very positive comments from Addy’s customers. A big plus with the shop continuing to trade was that we were all kept in good spirits with pies and other treats!”
Winners from all three Yorkshire heats – others are being staged for the North & East and South Yorkshire & Humber – will then fly the White Rose flag in the LABC Building Excellence Awards Grand Finals to be held in London in November.
