Butchers urged to get behind British Sausage Week
With the 18th annual British Sausage Week approaching (2-8 November), butchers are being urged to support the campaign by grabbing their free point-of-sale promotional kits.
The British Sausage Week kit contains different-sized posters, window displays, and 75 recipe booklets featuring sausage dishes, all helping to promote the event.
The event is run in conjunction with AHDB Pork, which is also providing promotional supplies.
“We know that promotional kits are great tools for butchers to effectively engage customers and drive awareness of products and events,” said AHDB Pork butchery development manager Keith Fisher. “This particular kit includes material that can be easily displayed, as well as recipe literature to hand out to customers.
“British Sausage Week is a celebration of the popularity of the great British banger and aims to give customers inspiration to try new varieties, flavours and sausage-based dishes. This material will inspire them to do just that and provide a real talking point for any shop.”
Awards for the best sausages in retailers, independent/farm shops and catering establishments will be presented by celebrated chef Michel Roux Jr.
“I’m delighted to be involved in British Sausage Week, and celebrate the best quality sausages from around the country,” said Roux.
In addition, the famous chef has shared a range of new recipes including his pork and leek sausage bourguignone and wasabi duchess potato with honey and soy glazed sausage.
“I have always enjoyed experimenting with classic dishes and ingredients, without compromising on quality – with sausages you can do so much. It’s time to rethink the humble banger and look beyond mash and gravy to give sausages a bit of the Michelin-star treatment.”
Fisher added of Roux’s involvement with the event: “It’s a real privilege to have such an eminent chef at the forefront of this year’s campaign. With Michel’s passion and exceptional culinary heritage, we aim to re-vamp sausage mealtimes and bring a bit of gastronomy into everyday sausage-eating habits.
“There are hundreds of fantastically produced sausage varieties and with Michel’s help in backing the best; we can demonstrate that they’re really not so humble anymore!”
The British Sausage Week kits are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are available free of charge here.
