NBA Beef Expo heads to Peak District
The Agricultural Business Centre, home of Bakewell Market, is set to host the National Beef Association’s (NBA) 2016 Beef Expo, 15 years after the event was last held there.
The showcase, taking place on Friday 20 May, is an opportunity for those in the industry to gather to celebrate the country’s best commercial and pedigree cattle, equipment, and innovative developments within the sector.
“It is an honour to be hosting the NBA Beef Expo at Bakewell in the Peak District National Park, which will provide a wonderful setting for the event,” explained Alastair Sneddon, chairman of the 2016 Expo.
He continued to highlight the relevance of returning to the district. “It is predominantly a suckler beef area, with most animals sold as suckled calves or stronger stores. There is also some beef produced from the limited number of dairy herds in the region. Bakewell Market attracts buyers from all over the country, who are well aware of the quality of stock on offer at the weekly and special sales, with stores outnumbering finished animals by a significant margin.”
The NBA Beef Expo displays a fine example of British cattle breeding due the even being considered a hotspot for breed societies promoting their cattle. It also offers a platform for farmers, exhibitors, agricultural companies and anybody else interested in the sector to network.
Chris Mallon, NBA chief executive added that he was looking forward to the upcoming event. “Returning to the Peak District for the 2016 NBA Beef Expo is very exciting for us. Last year was our biggest expo to date and we are looking to expand on that next year. The Agricultural Business Centre is in the centre of town so we are really looking to generate a strong community response to the event.”
The showcase draws beef experts together in the hopes of educating both farmers and the public.
“A vital part of our mission for the NBA is educating the consumer, so by hosting the event at Bakewell we hope to encourage members of the public to come along and see what the beef industry is all about,” concluded Mallon.
