Complete Meats wins at British Sausage Week with Pork & Otter Ale offering
Devon butcher Complete Meats has been awarded the top prize in this year’s British Sausage Week competition.
The butcher’s Pork & Otter Ale Sausage won the independent retailer category before picking up the overall title, with judges praising the mix of lightly seasoned West Country quality-assured pork with locally brewed ale.
Complete Meats was awarded the accolade at a ceremony in London hosted by British Sausage Week ambassador and renowned chef Michel Roux Jr.
Keith Fisher, butchery development manager for AHDB Pork and head judge, said: “The innovative pork sausage from Complete Meats stood out for all the right reasons. It scored top marks across the board, including taste, texture, appearance and cooking and eating quality. They absolutely deserve the top spot.”
Fisher praised all entrants to the competition. “With sausage pride running high, the competition to mark the 18th annual British Sausage Week was particularly fierce, with only the very best pork sausages making it onto the 2015 roll of honour.
“Both record levels of entry and innovation this year prove the sausage market is in no danger of standing still. It remains imaginative and forward-thinking, delivering a fantastic array of quality pork sausages to satisfy the country’s entire legion of sausage fans.”
Other winners on the day included Marks & Spencer, Waitrose, Aldi and Tesco, along with branded manufacturer Musks in the multiple category while Frank Parker Butchers, Broad Oak Farm Sausage Company and Fairfax Meadow also won gold.
