Shropshire butcher prepares for 40 years in the business
G N Badley & Sons, in Gibbons Road, Trench, will celebrate 40 years in the industry this March.
The store was opened by Gordon Badley and his son Keith in 1976. After Keith’s passing in 2011, his son Simon, along with his widow Kay, took over the business.
Despite competition from supermarket chains, Simon remains confident that his business will continue to flourish: “The fact we are celebrating our 40th anniversary shows just how strong we are,” he said.
“We remain loyal to our customers and we recognise what they need. We know that people like a personal touch, which supermarkets cannot offer.
“We give advice on the right cut, how to cook the meat and what works well for different recipes. All that knowledge is lacking from a supermarket counter.”
In 2012, the business launched its website with an online shop, allowing orders to be placed by customers from London to Scotland.
“We sell our products all over the UK now and our website is vital to our business,” continued Badley.
By branching out online, the business is able to send a regular newsletter to 8,000 subscribers, expanding orders further still.
Badley added: “We make sure there is always something new to look at on our website, whether that’s a new blog, a piece of news or just updated information about our products, delivery, opening hours and reviews.”
G N Badley & Sons boasts being an active part of the community. In the past year, the family butcher has supported national campaigns, such as British Sausage Week, as well as backing healthier menus at local schools.
“We are proud to be a vocal part of our local community. Over this past year we have launched a new sausage in conjunction with Redrow Homes to celebrate a new development in Telford, campaigned for the rights for farmers to get a fair price for lamb, donated money to charity through the sale of barbecue products to help raise awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide and held various competitions, which award our loyal customers with prizes.”
Looking forward, Badley said he and his mother would ensure that his father’s legacy lives on.
“After my father died in 2011, we wanted to carry on the business. It was hard, but it was so important to us and we want to continue to move the business forward and make it grow. We pride ourselves on offering the customer the easiest experience for them and we will continue to look for ways to improve this.”
To celebrate 40 years in the business, Badley will host a series of events and promotions for customers, including special offers and competitions, where every prize will add up to the value of £40.
