Award-winning butcher teams up with local boxing champion

Meat Trades Journal’s 2015 Butcher’s Shop of the Year winners for the South of England, Walter Rose & Son, has entered a sponsorship deal with local professional boxer Nick Blackwell.

Blackwell, who is the current British Middleweight champion, hails from Trowbridge in Wiltshire, the same town where Walter Rose is situated. As a self-proclaimed lover of sport, the butchery business regularly looks for ways it can support both sporting individuals and clubs within the local area.

“Following local sport is a big part of our life and when we heard about Nick via our butcher’s shop in Trowbridge, it seemed like a great opportunity to get behind this local boxer and support him as his professional boxing career develops,” said Steve Cook from Walter Rose.

To ensure he is in peak condition for competition, Blackwell has to consume large amounts of lean protein. This diet includes plenty of beef and chicken and Walter Rose provides him with a weekly supply. The young boxer is currently consuming at least two fillet steaks a day, as well as large amounts of chicken in preparation for his next fight against Chris Eubank Jr on 26 March to defend his title.

“Following a strict diet is a big part of my training, especially when I am preparing for a fight, so being provided with all my meat from Walter Rose, and knowing that I am eating the best that is available, means everything to me,” said Blackwell.
