Avery Berkel calls time on M-Series after 17 years

Weighing solution manufacturer, Avery Berkel, has halted production of its M-Series retail weighing scales after 17 years.

The original M-Series weighing scales were produced until 2004, then replaced by the updated M² units, which boasted even faster operation among other updates. The MP scale followed as Avery Berkel’s first entry into colour touchscreen technology, eventually paving the way for their XM and XT products.

In the UK and Republic of Ireland, the M-Series featured in Sainsbury’s, Asda, The Co-op Group, SPAR, Dunnes, SuperValu, Fortnum & Mason, along with thousands of independent butchers, fishmongers and grocers. M-Series was also incredibly popular overseas with retailers such as Carrefour, Auchan, Système U and The Fresh Market.

Kevin Cartwright, research & development director for Avery Berkel, said, “The M-Series was, and still is, a much valued and respected weighing scale from the Avery Berkel brand, contributing to its longevity and popularity in the field. When we originally drew up plans for the project, I don’t think any of us could have predicted we would still be manufacturing and selling the M-Series 17 years later. All good things must come to an end and it will be fondly missed.”

The legacy of the M-Series will be continued through the brand’s Xs Series. Launched in 2015, the Xs Series was designed upon the same software platform and shares many of the M-Series’ benefits and features, but with current technologies and efficiencies in place.
