ABP Food Group looks to create 400 jobs via expansion
Processor ABP Food Group hopes to create 400 jobs with the latest development at its Shrewsbury plant.
It has submitted a planning application for a new building at the site which is currently being considered by the local planning authority.
Although ABP said it doesn’t comment on outstanding planning applications, it did confirm to Meat Trades Journal that the proposal is for a new retail meat packing building that will improve the existing Shrewsbury plant.
The new building will also include a dry goods store, employee amenities, canteen facilities and administration and staff offices.
The development represents an estimated £20 million capital investment and will provide for over 400 local jobs as well as “a significant number of construction jobs supported during the building phase”.
The ABP Food Group currently employs 725 staff in Ellesmere and 732 staff in Shrewsbury.
It completed a £30m investment into its 60,000 square metre facility in Ellesmere, Shropshire last September.
