Butchers go gourmet

Glasgow's gourmets will have the chance to see some of the world's greatest chefs cooking some of the world's best red meat this weekend, and then can buy some for themselves.

The Scotch Butchers Club, an exclusive group of butchers who sell premium Scotch products, is sponsoring the meat for the cookery theatre at this weekend's BBC Good Food Show, taking place between 2-4 November at the SECC, Glasgow.

The top chefs bringing their culinary skills to the event include Gordon Ramsay, James Martin, Nick Nairn, Andrew Fairlie and Jeremy Lee.

After they have been inspired by the chefs they can then come and buy their own top quality Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb and Specially Selected Pork from the Quality Meat Scotland stand.

Top Butchers including Yorkes of Dundee and Blackwoods of Kilmacolm will be on the stand and will be joined by premium deli-meat specialists Brown Brothers. The best Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb and Specially Selected Pork will be on sale throughout the show, backed with the gold-plated service and advice you'd expect from your local butcher.

June Lomax, independent retailers' manager for red meat promotion body Quality Meat Scotland, said: "Our stand at the BBC Good Food Show offers visitors the opportunity to rediscover the exciting range of new products being created by independent butchers the length and breadth of the country, as well as the excellent deli products created from our nation's produce.

"QMS is also sponsoring the meat for the demonstrations at the Cookery Theatre. With Scotland's global reputation for producing the finest quality meat we thought it only right that our top chefs should be working with the very best Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb and Specially Selected Pork during their cookery theatre demonstrations.

"Consumers want to know where the meat they are using comes from, and produce with the Scotch label guarantees they will get a fully traceable, premium product which is the toast of gourmets throughout the world."

Those wanting to know more about what makes Scotland's red meat so special should also visit the QMS stand, as we'll have a range of materials including shopping guides and brand new recipes.

The QMS stand is number E86 at the Good Food Show, in Hall 4 of the SECC, Glasgow.
