New Worshipful Company of Butchers Master elected
Stuart Thompson of Thompsons of Smithfield has been elected Master of the Worshipful Company of Butchers.
He is the fourth generation of his family to work in the UK meat industry and was clothed into the Livery of The Worshipful Company of Butchers in 1988.
Thompson spent a year at Spiller’s Foods Market Research and studied poultry farming and processing methods in Europe and the United States before returning to the family business.
Since 1982 he has been running Thompsons of Smithfield, which has a market shop as well as a national distribution business supplying UK food service companies.
Previously a Common Councilman within the City of London, in 1999 he was awarded the French l’Ordre du Mérite agricole (Order of Agricultural Merit) for his contributions to the French poultry industry.
