Frozen turkey pet food recalled due to salmonella presence

Natures Menu has recalled its ‘Country Hunter 80% Farm Reared Turkey with Wholesome Fruit and Veg’ frozen pet food, due to the presence of salmonella.

Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause food poisoning in humans, so the product could carry a potential risk through direct handling or through contaminating a food contact surface. Symptoms for salmonella in humans include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.

The recalled product has a ‘use by’ date of 13 December 2017. Product recall notices will be sent to all businesses that sell the product, explaining the reason behind the recall and the actions customers should take if they have bought the affected product. No other Natures Menu items are known to be affected.

“When handling and serving raw foods for pets it is always advised to clean utensils and feeding bowls thoroughly,” said a statement from the Food Standards Agency (FSA). “If you have bought the above product and wish to return it, please contact Natures Menu on their free phone number 0800 0183770 or by email at customerservices@naturesmenu.co.uk where you will be given a full refund and Natures Menu will arrange to collect the product.”
