Q Guild countdown for Smithfield Awards
With almost 600 product entrants this year, the Q Guild is preparing for a record Smithfield Awards.
The entrants, representing a major increase on last year’s competition, come from the Q Guild’s 61 member businesses.
A total of 267 gold award winners from the Guild’s eight regions will be revealed on Wednesday, 1 February at London’s Ironmongers’ Hall. All products were blind-judged by independent panels, comprising international food and meat industry experts.
As well as winners, category diamond awards and an overall supreme champion will be crowned by British food writer and critic Tom Parker Bowles (pictured).
“The response this year has been absolutely amazing and has reinforced the Guild’s decision to change the Smithfield Awards format and make the presentations early in the year,” said Q Guild national chairman and Alnwick butcher Mark Turnbull.
“This will allow all winners to promote their products – and their businesses – for a full 11 months within the current year of the awards, which we feel will prove a truly potent and effective marketing tool.”
