SuperMeat & Fish Awards build momentum

Entries are underway for this year’s SuperMeat & Fish Awards, with Morrisons, Iceland and Aldi and a variety of suppliers all already stepping up to the plate.

This year’s awards, sponsors for which include Krehalon, are even bigger and better than before. As usual, there are two main streams. The counter awards are free to enter and recognise the retailers with the best butchery and fish counters. The product awards reward top quality in a variety of meat and fish categories. Past winners of these have included Tesco, Marks & Spencer and The Co-operative Food.

However, this year processors get a slice of the action, with the newly launched Supermarket Meat Processor of The Year, Supermarket Fish Processor of The Year and Supply Chain Partnership of the Year Awards. All these are also free to enter.

The product awards, for which there is a charge, will incorporate our SuperMeat & Fish Christmas Product Awards. All winners gain the right to use the SuperMeat & Fish logo on all their products, as well as extensive online and print coverage.

The meticulous judging panel for the various awards include accredited master butchers, chefs and retail and supply chain experts, and Meat Trades Journal has worked hard to make the entry process as simple and straightforward as possible.

Morrisons’ chairman Andrew Higginson referred to it winning the overall SuperMeat & Fish crown in its interim results statement last year, saying: “Prices are lower, customers are being served better and quality is improving, as demonstrated by Morrisons winning a number of recent prestigious awards, such as the 2016 Meat & Fish Retailer of The Year.”

The supermarket chain made good use of the logo in TV, online, in-store and print advertising.

The deadline for the retail & supply chain awards is Friday 19 May and the deadline for the product awards is Friday 26 May. The awards lunch will take place on Friday 8 September at London’s Hilton Bankside Hotel, kicking off with a drinks reception.

As ever, attendees include staff at all levels of the meat industry, allowing sponsors, entrants and others across the supply chain huge potential for networking.

Meat, seafood and cheese packaging business Krehalon, which specialises in Secondary Seal Technology, among other areas, is sponsoring the Supermarket Meat Processor of The Year Award. A range of sponsorship opportunities exist in other categories, but potential sponsors are advised to express their interest sooner rather than later to avoid missing out.

For those interested in sponsoring the event, email sales manager Matthew Bingham at matthew.bingham@wrbm.com or call him on 01293 846572.
