World Angus Forum returns to its roots

For the first time in 40 years, the 2017 World Angus Forum will be heading to the home of the Aberdeen-Angus breed in the UK and will be hosted by the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society in the UK.

The conference this year is adopting the theme ‘From consumption to conception’, and will discuss current issues and trends in the beef industry, as well as what the future might hold for the sector. Breeders from all over the world are expected to gather from Friday 16 June to Sunday 2 July to attend the event.

Alex Sanger, president of the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society and chair of the World Angus Forum 2017, commented: “The forum presents us with a magnificent opportunity to bring breed enthusiasts together from all over the world, all with the same aim, to share our stories, skills and passion related to the world class Aberdeen-Angus breed.”

Attendees will benefit from an insight into the world of beef production during the two-day technical conference, where they will learn about a range of topics including retailer demands and how data, genetics and genomics can improve the consumer’s experience from guest speakers. The benefits of the cattle to human health and the environment is also expected into enter the spotlight.

Complementing the two-day conference, a series of events are lined up over the 16 days designed to educate, entertain and inspire delegates from as afar afield as South America, Africa and all over Europe. National tours of England, Scotland and Ireland will be incorporated into the forum, where attendees will visit Aberdeen-Angus herds.

A youth competition will also be involved, allowing teams of selected young members from across the globe to compete in livestock, agri-skills and social challenges, which will reach a grand finale at Netherton Farm, Perthshire at the climax of the forum on 2 July.

“We’re really excited about the future of the Aberdeen-Angus breed,” added Sanger. “The worldwide popularity and passion for the breed is ever expanding, and the World Angus Forum is only going to further augment that drive and desire for this great breed.”
