Industry encouraged to participate in charity golf day

Members of the meat industry are being encouraged to take part in the Butchers’ and Drovers’ Charitable Institution (BDCI) 2017 annual golf day.

The social event will provide attendees with a day of golf, entertainment and fine dining at the Surrey Downs Golf Club in Kingswood, Surrey, on Thursday 21 September.

The golf day is open to both novices and those with more experience. “We are lucky to have the support of companies within the meat trade who recognise the vital work and support the BDCI gives to those in need in our industry and give generously of their time and money to support the event,” said the charity.

Participants will have the chance to take part in a ‘beat the professional’ on a par three hole, with four longest drives and four nearest the pins competitions for people to win, along with prizes for the three highest scores and a team prize.

The BDCI said: “The golf day is held in a relaxed informal manner to enable players to mingle before, during and after the game with colleagues, customers and friends.” The event starts with a breakfast reception and will finish with a three-course meal, charity auction and prize-giving.

Individual players must pay £100 to take part, with a charge of £350 for teams, including meals. There is a maximum space of 24 teams on a first-come first-served basis.

The BDCI was created to provide support for people who work, or have previously worked, in the meat industry and face financial burdens, regardless of circumstance. Widows and widowers, dependants and children are also eligible for assistance.
