Norwich-based halal butcher victim of hate crime

Witnesses have been called to come forward following criminal damage to a halal butcher’s in Norwich.

The incident happened at approximately 11.20pm on Tuesday, 25 July, when a brick was thrown at the butcher’s shop on Magdalen Street causing damage to the glass door.

“This is a fast-paced inquiry and there are several leads that are being actively followed up,” said DC Dave Block, who is investigating the crime.

“It is being dealt with as a hate crime and I’d like to reassure people of all faiths and racial backgrounds that hate-related incidents are rare in Norwich and that such incidents are not tolerated by the very diverse and strong Magdalen Street Community or Norfolk Constabulary. We will investigate this crime thoroughly and, should offenders be identified, we will deal with them robustly.”

Any witnesses who saw somebody acting suspiciously in the area at the date and time or anyone with any information are being urged to contact PC Dave Block at Norwich Police Station on 101, or alternatively by anonymously contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
