Creamy Leek and Bacon Cooking Sauce recalled by Tesco

Retailer Tesco has recalled a batch of its Creamy Leek and Bacon Cooking Sauce as it contains eggs that are not mentioned on the packaging. This may cause harm to consumers that have an egg intolerance.

The 470g sauce has a ‘best before’ date of the end of July 2018, with a batch code of 7031. If you have purchased the item and have an allergy or intolerance to eggs, it is advised that the sauce is not consumed. Instead, return it to a Tesco store where a full refund will be allocated.

The supermarket chain will be contacting relevant allergy support organisations to inform their members about the recall. Point-of-sale notices have also been issued across Tesco stores, explaining why they have been recalled and what to do if they have been purchased.

The notices read: “We have been made aware by our supplier that, due to a manufacturing error, a single batch of this sauce may contain egg and will have the incorrect allergen information on the packaging.

“Tesco apologises to all our customers for any inconvenience caused.”
