Marfrig signs up to football World Cup deal

Brazilian meat processor Marfrig and its European brands are to become sponsors of the football World Cup 2010 in South Africa this summer.

Northern Irish poultry supplier Moy Park, which is part of Marfrig, will be seen on advertising hoarding for England, France and the Netherlands matches while Marfrig sister brand Seara will be the main sponsor of all matches at the World Cup.

Moy Park CEO Nigel Dunlop said: “Moy Park is delighted to be involved in such a prestigious event as the FIFA World Cup.

“As a company, we are dedicated to producing food to high-quality standards with a great taste.

"We want more people to know about what we do, and the World Cup sponsorship will put Moy Park’s name in front of millions of people around the world. We hope this will not just increase their awareness of us, but grow sales for our partners.

"Chicken is good for everyone and high on the list of foods that athletes eat, because it’s one of the richest sources of energy-giving protein.

"It is also low in fat and cholesterol and contains many important vitamins and minerals that help bodies repair themselves – ideal after 90 minutes on the pitch.”

The Marfrig deal will also see sponsorship continue to the next World Cup in Brazil in 2014 in an agreement signed by the president of FIFA Joseph Blatter and the Marfrig CEO and chairman of the board Marcos Antonio Molina dos Santos.
