Mettrick scores north west win

The first Bpex Butcher's Roadshow of 2011 rolled into the Reebok Stadium, Bolton, for the North Western stop of the 2010/2011 tour.


More than 60 butchers arrived, armed with 262 products for evaluation. When judging finished, the 12 category champions were crowned, with JW Mettrick & Sons picking up the coveted title of Overall Champion for the North West.


The Glossop-based butcher received the award for its Pork with Lemon Marmalade and Cracked Black Pepper Sausage the champion product in the speciality pork sausage category. It was also awarded two further champion titles in the traditional pork sausage and home-cured bacon categories.


Another triple champion award winner was Dales Traditional Butchers, whose speciality cold eating Pork and Haggis Pie, traditional Pork Pie and Black Pudding all received high praise from the judges.


Speaking of his success, JW Mettrick & Sons proprietor John Mettrick said: "We work hard to deliver outstanding products and I'm thrilled the judges agreed."
