John Thorley is new chairman of AIMS

Sheep industry hero John Thorley OBE has been appointed as the new chairman of the Association of Independent Meat Suppliers (AIMS).

As director of the Pastoral Alliance and former chief executive of the National Sheep Association, Thorley has over 40 years’ experience of campaigning for the meat industry. He is also currently chair of the Prince of Wales’ Mutton Renaissance Club and the Campaign for Wool.

Announcing the appointment at AIMS’ annual conference on Saturday 1 October, former chairman John Gerald said: “It is great that John has been involved with such things that are so successful. He has had the right contact with the right people. I believe he will be a great asset to AIMS and I look forward to seeing him carry on from where I left off at AIMS.”

Thorley said he felt well-placed to help AIMS members. “I have had a foot in the AIMS camp since Norman first put the organisation together,” he said, adding that “a great deal of my life has been dedicated to the sheep industry, but I have also looked after the cattle industry.”
