Scottish black pudding champion announced

Saltcoats butcher James Baillie has beaten a previous overall winner and three other top black pudding makers to carry off the title of Scottish Black Pudding Champion.

It is the first time James has won the prestigious overall award. The runner-up was Mearns T McCaskie of Wemyss Bay, a previous champion.

Organised by the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders (SFMT) the competition attracted almost 100 entries. Five regional heat winners were in the final: Forbes Raeburn & Sons, Huntly (North of Scotland), Stuarts of Buckhaven (East), Mearns T McCaskie, Wemyss Bay (West), Shaws Fine Meats, Lauder (South East) and T Baiilie & Son, Saltcoats (South West).

Harry Simpson from sponsor Dalziel presented James with his champion’s trophy.
