SFDF appoints new director

Scottish Food and Drink Federation (SFDF) has appointed Dr Colette Backwell as director.

Backwell, SFDF said, is a respected scientist with expertise in food, nutrition, farming and animal health. She has worked at senior levels with the Scottish government and Defra and will take the position at the Edinburgh office on 3 September.

According to Backwell the food and drink manufacturing industry is Scotland’s biggest and adds value to the economy. She said: “With over twenty years’ experience of working in food production and nutrition, I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to return to an industry in which I passionately believe.”

FDF Director General Melanie Leech said: “I am delighted to welcome Backwell to FDF’s top team. I look forward to working with her to continue to deliver an excellent service to our members and the industry in Scotland.”
