Europeans enjoy high standards of food safety

According to the a European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) Europeans enjoy some of the highest food safety standards in the world.

EFSA executive director Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle said: “We have heard many different voices at this meeting and it is important we continue to improve that dialogue. Most importantly, today we are agreed that we need a stronger EFSA and a stronger risk assessment community in Europe.”

Lanéelle was speaking at the end of a major food safety meeting that took place to mark the 10th anniversary of EFSA last week. Attendees at the meeting, entitled ‘Ready for the Challenges of Tomorrow’, consisted of members of the European Commission, European Parliament, NGOs and industry bodies.
