Defra reveals animal feed statistics

Retail production of animal feed in Great Britain has shown year-on-year increases, while integrated feed production has declined.

The information has come from the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affair’s (Defra) in its animal feed statistics report for GB during February 2013.

According to the figures, retail production of animal feed in GB was up 5.9% compared to February last year and raw material usage in the retail production of animal feed was up on the year by 6.5%. However, the figures showed that integrated feed production was down by 2.5% on last year.

Average prices for animal feed for the period October to December 2012 were:

  • Cattle and calf feed: £250 per tonne (pt)
  • Pig feed: £282 pt
  • Poultry feed £282 pt
  • Sheep feed: £242 pt
