‘Hambassador’ line-up revealed

Television presenter and celebrity farmer Jimmy Doherty has led a successful search to appoint five ‘Hambassadors’ for the ‘Give a Fork About Your Pork’ campaign.

Those selected will help support Quality Assured farmers and their mission to promote Red Tractor pork. The Hambassadors are a mix of pork enthusiasts and social media moguls. They are: Harriet Smith, Bill Pellet, Adam Lavelle, Laura Lavelle and Chris Doney.

The new recruits will take action and raise awareness about the issues pig farmers and the Red Tractor Standards behind the pork they produce. They will be paid in pork for their efforts and receive a year’s supply of pork, bacon, ham and sausages.

Doherty himself will mark the appointment of the quintet at his Suffolk farm, where he told them more about their role. He told them about the day-to-day role of being a Red Tractor pig farmer and the standards they have to adhere to.

Of the title and the event surrounding her appointment, Laura Lavelle said: “I already champion local producers on my blog, so applying to be a ‘Hambassador’ was a natural step. I love pork and I’m passionate about animal welfare standards – this really is a dream job! I’m really excited about taking up my role as Hambassador and doing my part to help pig farmers. It has been a real eye-opener to learn more about the Red Tractor scheme and I can’t wait to get started.”
