Champion of Champions 2015 now open for entries

Entries are now open for this year’s Champion of Champions competition.

Open to any producer who has won the overall title at a recognised sausage competition between 1 July 2014 and 30 June 2015, the event will take the best sausages in the land and decide who really is the Champion of Champions when it comes to sausage making.

Entries for Champion of Champions in 2014 included winners of some of the country’s top competitions including the Q Guild National BBQ Finals, the National Federation of Meat and Food Traders’ National Product Competition, The Great Yorkshire, Pork Pie, Sausage & Products Competition, the Taste of the West Gold Awards and the Sausage for Scotland Competition run by the Scottish Meat Federation.

Winning Champion of Champions can be extremely beneficial to a butcher, with the potential for coverage in both national and local press. Last year’s overall winner, Craig Finch from Craig Finch Butchers in Birmingham, said taking the top prize was a great boost to his business. His Pork & Leek sausages helped him to a second Champion of Champions victory in 2014, so will he be able to make it a hat-trick of wins? “It is hard work, but it’s worth it when you win the trophy,” he said. “Winning competitions like this really raises the profile of your business.”

Rod Addy, editor of Meat Trades Journal, said: “For more than 30 years, Champion of Champions has been rewarding the best sausages and sausage-makers. UK butchers compete to claim the top award in this contest, gaining prestige just from being in the running, and previous winners have seen their sausage sales more than double as a result, so anyone who believes they stand a chance of victory should definitely enter.”

Deadline for entries to the competition is 4 September, with the event taking place on Monday 12 October at St Barts Brewery in London.

The 2015 Champion of Champions is sponsored by AHDB Pork, Lucas Ingredients and Colfan HL from Viscofan.
