Food firm profits soar

Holmesterne Foods, suppliers of a wide range of quality ribs, sausages, kebabs and ready meal ingredients to major UK supermarkets and the food service industry is set to celebrate a record year of profits as interim results are announced this month


Keith Tindell, managing director of the company based in Richmond, North Yorkshire, said it was pleasing to report continued growth at Holmesterne in January.

He added the company was on track to achieve its targeted turnover of £20m by 2010.

He said: "Turnover for the last six months was up 15.5% on the same period last year reflecting strong organic growth. We have three top grade factories and our workforce has been working hard to match the increase in orders across a wide range of lines."

He added that the company was keen to invest in new product development and kept one step ahead in innovation.

"Keeping on top of consumer trends is key to our business. Lamb shanks have been big business over the last few years, so we developed a twice braised pork shank ... We are seeing a big food service demand for this product," Tindell said.

The company has also seen a renaissance of demand for the product that launched Holmesterne into added value products in 1994 ? the sticky rib.

Tindell added: "I'm told in Nigella's new Christmas series, she filmed a recipe for sweet and sticky ribs for a drinks party ? this might account for some of the seasonal lift. I'm no Nigella ? but ribs are always popular at the hot deli counter, particularly in the party season."
