A major Dubai based meat producer is preparing to enter the UK's halal meat market.

Al Islami Foods has signed an voint venture agreement with the UK's leading

foodservice distributor, 3663 First For Foodservice.

Under terms of the agreement, 3663 will process and distribute halal meat products in the UK on Al Islami's behalf.

Plans for the joint venture include the expansion of an existing 3663 processing plant in Manchester to accommodate the new range. It is hoped that Al Islami fresh and frozen products will be available to customers from October this year.

"There is a growing demand for Halal products in the UK retail and foodservice market. The Halal food market in the UK is estimated to be worth more than £900m and by teaming up with Al Islami we are able to offer our customers a wide range of genuine Halal meat products," said Fred Barnes, chief executive of 3663.

"Al Islami has strong business credentials - they have been producing Halal meat ranges since the early '70s and the company conforms to the exacting standards we demand from our business partners."

Al Islami is a major player in the international halal food industry and recently reported 49% local and 120% global sales growth in the past year.

"The main engine of solid growth is our commitment of offering real halal to the consumer," said Saleh Abdullah Lootah, CEO of Al Islami Foods.
