New Development in Meat Quality Checks

A new system called FreshScan aimed at monitoring the condition and quality of meat during the supply process is being developed by German scientists.

According to Decision News Media, the technology will utilise radio frequency identification (RFID) to enable manufacturers or suppliers to check on the meat's condition at any point.

The three-year project intends to develop a dual-component system, combining an RFID reader equipped with an optical detector and a semi-active RFID tag with temperature sensors.

The optical detector will use a laser to analyse chemical changes in the meat's condition, which is then recorded in the RFID tag.
