Butcher's Shop finalists chosen

Butchery businesses up and down the country will be vying with each other for the top spot following the first round of judging in MTJ's popular Butcher's Shop of the Year Awards. The finalists are now revealed across all of the competition's categories and judges will be hitting the road to assess each business on the ground.

Ed Bedington, editor of MTJ, said: "We had a fantastic level of entry into this year's competition, probably one of the highest yet, so it was quite a challenge for the judges to pick out our finalists. There were some excellent entries and those in the final thoroughly deserve their place in the competition.

"We'll be getting out and about now to visit each business in the competition, and we look forward to selecting our final winners which will be announced on the day."

The awards celebrate all that is great about the butchery sector and highlight some of the best businesses across the industry. The competition covers butcher's businesses up and down the country, with the winner in each region going head to head to reveal the UK's best shop. Other national awards include Farm Shop of the Year, Butcher's Plus, Halal Butcher's Shop of the Year and the ever-popular Young Butcher of the Year.

The awards, which will be held on 22 November at the London Landmark Hotel, are sponsored by Eblex, Bpex, Hybu Cig Cymru Meat Promotion Wales, Weddel Swift & Harmony Farm, Lucas Ingredients, Verstegen Spices & Sauces, Tican Chilled, the Meat Training Council and Quality Meat Scotland's Scotch Butchers' Club.
