Scots display beef and lamb in Belgium

Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) showcased PGI Scotch Beef and Lamb at an event in Belgium, which generated export interest from Belgian and Dutch retailers.

The Fine Foods Fair, Tavola in Kortrijk, Benelux, hosted around 15,000 visitors, with all the major food retailers from Belgium and the Netherlands in attendance. QMS and several Scottish processers offered samples of products including a range of Scotch Beef and Scotch Lamb products – vacuum-packed primal cuts, skin-packed products and fresh burgers.

The four main cuts particularly sought after in Belgium are fillet, sirloin, cube roll and côte à l’os (rib roast).  However, there is also strong demand for other cuts like knuckles, topside and silverside from the Netherlands.

“The fantastic reputation which Scotch Beef and Scotch Lamb have, particularly in Belgium, was great to experience at an important event like this,” said Huub Schoemaker, QMS export development manager, Benelux. “A number of new opportunities were identified during the course of the event, including new Belgian customers keen to import Scotch Beef who held very positive discussions with the Scottish exporters present.”
